MUA Lipstick in Shade 13

According to MUA:

'Make a statement with our show stopping shades.

Make Up Academy provides trend shades on a budget, allowing you to achieve the latest looks without breaking the bank!'

I've been watching MUA for awhile. As a student I'm always looking for ways to reduce costs. However, I've always been a little wary of super cheap products. I always come to the immediate conclusion that somewhere along the line quality has to be compromised to reduce the cost. This isn't the case with MUA. Needless to say, I have been pleasantly surprised!

I bought this lipstick when I was searching for make-up for my Geisha costume that I was wearing to a fancy dress party. Because I assumed I would be wearing it once, I went for something cheap. I bought the shade 13. They cost £1 for 3.6g. It may be the cheapest lipstick I have ever bought. The shade is very bright orangey red. I've never really worn red lipstick, so it was a first for me.

I didn't find that I had to really build up the colour. It's very, very bright. I did find that it seemed to slide around a lot. The lipstick itself is very creamy. I think I prefer a matte finish when it comes to lipsticks. What I was the most surprised with was the amount of wear I got out of the lipstick. On the day of the fancy dress I remembered that I didn't own a lip liner, so I had to go without. This lipstick lasted around about 4 hours before it started fading, with eating and drinking.

Overall I don't think the colour of the lipstick is something I'd wear every day, but at just £1 you can afford to experiment! I would definitely go back and pick some other shades to have a look at. I'm currently very, very tempted by the eyeshadows.

Has anybody else tried MUA? What were your first impressions?

Disclosure: I bought this product myself.

  1. This colour looks gorgeous! I really like MUA, generally the quality is really good for the price. I don't mind trying out cheaper brands, even if they are rubbish at least you havent wasted much. But quite often I find them surprisingly good :) xx
