New Year's Resolutions

I'm not a big fan of New Years. I don't really celebrate it unless I'm going to something specific, I think it's too close to Christmas for me and I'm not the most sociable person. The one thing that I do like about New Years is resolutions. I think it's always good to have a fresh start and start doing something new. I'm normally not so great at sticking to mine, so I thought I'd do a quick post on what mine are for this year to try and motivate me! Plus I think it will be interesting to look back at this post next year and see how many actually worked out and which ones I didn't stick to!

In no particular order...

1. Get organised. I think I have this one every year! I suppose I'm a little more organised than most people, but I need to buy an organiser and plan my time better, particularly since I'm in my second year at university and when I enter my third year time management will be very important.

2. Gain weight. I've been trying to gain weight for about a year or so now. I used to be vegetarian but had to stop because it compromised my health, and although eating meat/fish has helped, it isn't enough. I have gained a little weight, but I'm still underweight. I need to start eating regularly. The main issue is that I don't like food (this is possible, believe me) and I will generally skip meals because I will forget to eat. I'm determined to reach the seven stone mark!

3. Start writing again. I used to love creative writing and I couldn't go a day without writing because it would stress me out. Since I've been at university I've not had the time to really sit down and get back into it. I need to make the effort to write at least once a week, even if it's just for half an hour.

4. Get fit. This might seem a bit odd with another one of my resolutions being gain weight, but I'm really unfit. I need to start running or swimming at least once a week. I also need to stop being embarrassed and realise that exercising as as an adult will not be as mortifying as PE at school. Lets face it, it's a little embarrassing to be out of breath just from walking up the stairs...

5. Be nice. This is the easiest of all my resolutions! I think it's good to say at least one nice thing to somebody everyday, without fail. It might be the difference between somebody having a bad day and a good day. Sometimes it's the small things that make a big difference! I think the world would be a much nicer place if we all made this our resolution.

6. Make an effort with what I wear. This is the one that I am the least likely to stick to! I have so many days when I can't be bothered to go through my wardrobe and decide what to wear, so I just throw on an old faded band t-shirt and some jeans. This normally makes me feel a little run down for the rest of the day. I need to start actually thinking about what I wear and making a concious effort, because in the end it will make me feel better.

7. Be confident. I've had confidence issues for as long as I can remember. I also have a hard time with accepting compliments. Whenever anybody compliments me on anything I usually turn beetroot and quickly begin denying everything they've said and telling them how much nicer they look and so on. It can't be too difficult to just say 'thank you' and move on can it? I need to stop dwelling on the negatives and try to be a little more positive about the way that I look. This includes to stop running away whenever I see a camera. I think this is probably the most difficult of all my resolutions.

It shouldn't be too hard...I hope! I have also have a few mini-resolutions, like to organise my desk and to make time to play with Thomasina more (she is getting old now but whenever we get her toys out she gets really excited and I think she could do with the exercise), but I didn't think they were big enough resolutions to include! I hope you all have a fantastic and safe New Years!

What are your resolutions this year? Are they similar to mine?

  2. You've got a good set of achievable goals there :) Getting fit put actually put weight on you, because it will encourage you to eat for energy & as well as putting weight muscle on, so it would be all healthy :) Good luck with them all!

    1. That's a really good point actually, I didn't think of it like that! I'm going to a fitness class in January so I'm hoping that once I start it will be easier to get into a routine with it.

Thank you! Hope you have a fantastic New Year too! x

    1. I need to get into a skin care routine too! I can normally last a couple of weeks on a routine until I begin to forget or decide that I 'don't need to today', haha! I'm really organised when it comes to coursework and getting to uni, but everything else just goes out of the window!

  5. I actually need to get in shape and lose some weight :P But i doubt it'll ever happen. My bottom line these days is that if I can feel my ribs and see them when I stretch, I'm all good. I do need to be more confident as well.. I'm huge on school - I'm crazy nerdy. But when it comes to stuff like appearance, I don't do as well :S
    Here's a great new year!!

    1. I'm exactly the same. I'm absolutely fine with uni but when it comes to trying to gain weight I just can't do it! It's hard to find the motivation to keep it up all day everyday, I think. I'm hoping that if I do manage to gain weight it will help with my confidence.

Hope you have a wonderful New Year!

    1. Thank you! I'm determined to start again, I think I've forgotten how much I enjoy it. I think I lost confidence with it when I changed my degree (I used to be studying creative writing at uni but I didn't like the course). Have a great New Year!

  8. Love your resolutions! Couldn't agree more about throwing on a band shirt and jeans, I feel so lazy but it's the only thing I feel comfortable in! Happy New Year lovely, hope it's a great one! :D xxx

    1. I've actually broken that one already, I'm wearing a faded band shirt and faded jeans today! It's comfortable put I never feel good in them so to speak. I'm not very good at putting outfits together! I think it would be better if all my band shirts weren't at least six years old, haha! Happy New Year to you too, and best of luck for 2013!

    2. Haha I'm sure you can forgive yourself for that one :P I know the feeling, surrounded by people who can put together a million outfits a week and I just stare at my wardrobe in the morning and think 'which Guns n Roses top is it today then?' XD xx

    3. Haha, exactly! I tend to go for whichever one is closest to me. I ought to move them to the back of my wardrobe really to persuade myself to wear something else! I don't see how other people can put outfits together on a day to day basis! I think I'd run out of ideas after a week.
