I hope you are all having a wonderful July. I thought I would begin this month with a very overdue post. I purchased a pair of the black onyx and dark red crystal earrings from The Black Cat Jewellery Store a few months ago and I have been intending to review them for weeks. I always say that I will get organised and write a blog post schedule, but it still hasn't happened yet. I will do it one day!
As you can imagine, my jewellery box is overflowing with necklaces and chokers. However, I only own three pairs of long earrings. Two of these were given to me by my Nanna when she passed away, and they are incredibly important to me. I cannot imagine how upset I would be if I were to lose them, so I have put them away for special occasions. I am sure my Nanna would tell me to stop being so sentimental and wear them, but I really do treasure them. Whilst this means that I am not concerned about losing them, it also means that my earring collection is reduced to one pair.
In the summer months I am usually resigned to wearing my hair up, as the heat does not agree with my naturally curly hair. My hair is really thick and getting quite long, and as a result I tend to scoop it up to get it away from my back when I know it is going to be a hot day. Because of this, I thought it would be appropriate to purchase a pair of earrings that I can actually wear. I detest having to wear my hair up, and since I prefer dramatic and interesting jewellery, I thought it would be a good idea to invest in a pair of earrings to draw attention away from my hair.
I chose a pair of the black onyx and dark red crystal sterling silver pull through earrings from The Black Cat Jewellery Store. These earrings feature a dark red crystal between two black onyx beads suspended from a long, delicate silver chain. A detailed silver spacer separates each of the beads. The chain measures 176 millimetres.
Black onyx is said to promote feelings of strength and stability. It is a popular stone with those impacted by grief; it alleviates concerns and worries in times of stress and emotional difficulty. The black onyx beads complement the red crystal perfectly. The red really catches the light and looks wonderful against the darkness and depth of the onyx. In contrast, the silver is especially striking against the dark beads. The silver effectively separates the darkness of the other beads.
These earrings are pull throughs, so the length can be adjusted depending on the occasion. I prefer to wear these long for formal occasions or when I'm wearing my hair up, and I wear them a little shorter for lectures or days in the library. The chain is incredibly fine and delicate, so it doesn't get tangled or caught in my hair, which is wonderful if you have long, thick hair like me.
My only problem with these earrings is that they are absolutely impossible to photograph when you are wearing them. I ended up having to use my phone because my camera refused to focus on them. The earrings swing with the slightest movement, so most of my photos were blurry! I apologise for the quality of the image below. If I manage to take a better one in the future I will replace it. It really doesn't capture how beautiful the earrings are, which is such a shame!
I adore these earrings. They are suitable for a number of different occasions, and they are look wonderful when paired with an elaborate necklace. I feel so much more confident when I have to wear my hair up when I am wearing these. They are a wonderful addition to my collection, as they are the longest earrings I own. They are a little expensive, but they are incredibly well made and I wear them very frequently.
These earrings cost £19.50 from The Black Cat Jewellery Store.
On an unrelated note, I would like to take a moment to thank you all for your comments on my last outfit post. You are all so lovely, but in the end I couldn't stand looking at my blog with those photos on it, so I ended up deleting it. I always say that I am going to be brave and keep outfit posts up but I really do not think that I am at that stage yet. I just wanted to thank you all for your wonderful comments regardless.
I hope you all have an enjoyable end to the weekend! Do you have any exciting plans for July?
Disclosure: I bought these earrings myself.
